ABOUT US
It started as a friendly competition between friends and family.
Just a bit of rivalry and a shared obsession with chasing kingfish along New Zealand’s coastline. What began as a small challenge between a few people quickly became something that carried through each season.
As interest in it grew, it naturally expanded beyond the original group.
Eventually, it evolved into a structured land-based kingfish competition open to anglers across New Zealand, built on the same foundation it started with.
Today, it brings together anglers from different regions under the same conditions, land-based only, no boats, no shortcuts. Just people, coastline, timing, and skill.
At its core, it’s still the same idea it started as. The only difference now is the scale.

Acceptance of Terms
By accessing this website, purchasing an entry, submitting a catch, or otherwise participating in King Of The Season ("the Competition"), you agree to be bound by these Terms & Conditions, the Competition Rules, Privacy Policy, and any additional policies published on this website.
Eligibility
Participants must comply with all Competition Rules and all applicable New Zealand laws and regulations. Participants are solely responsible for ensuring they are permitted to participate in the Competition. King Of The Season reserves the right to refuse, suspend, or cancel any entry at its sole discretion where it reasonably believes a breach of these Terms, Competition Rules, or applicable laws has occurred.
Competition Entries
All entry fees must be paid in full prior to participation unless otherwise stated. Entries are non-transferable unless explicitly approved in writing by King Of The Season. Any attempt to manipulate, falsify, or misrepresent catch data, identity, or entry information may result in immediate disqualification.
Competition Decisions
King Of The Season reserves the right to disqualify any participant or entry at its sole discretion where it reasonably believes Competition Rules have been breached, illegal or unethical fishing practices have occurred, false or misleading information has been provided, or the integrity of the Competition has been compromised. All decisions made by King Of The Season relating to eligibility, verification of catches, scoring, rankings, prize allocation, and disqualification are final and binding. No correspondence, appeals, or disputes regarding competition outcomes will be entered into.
Participant Responsibility and Legal Compliance
Participants acknowledge that fishing and related outdoor activities involve inherent risks, including but not limited to environmental conditions, injury, equipment failure, and water hazards. Participation is entirely voluntary and undertaken at the participant’s own risk. Participants are solely responsible for their safety, conduct, equipment, and compliance with all applicable laws and regulations. This includes strict compliance with New Zealand fishing regulations, including but not limited to size limits, bag limits, seasonal restrictions, protected species rules, and any other legal requirements in force at the time of participation. Any breach of fishing regulations or unlawful activity may result in immediate disqualification from the Competition. King Of The Season accepts no responsibility for any breaches of law or regulation committed by participants.
Sponsor Protection and Third-Party Relationships
King Of The Season may collaborate with sponsors, partners, and third parties ("Sponsors") who may provide prizes, funding, products, or promotional support. Sponsors are independent entities and are not responsible for the operation, management, or administration of the Competition unless explicitly stated in writing. To the fullest extent permitted by law, Sponsors shall not be liable for any injury, loss, damage, claim, or dispute arising from participation in the Competition. Any disputes relating to Sponsor products, services, or prizes must be resolved directly with the Sponsor unless otherwise agreed in writing.
Prize Conditions
All prizes are subject to availability and may be substituted with items of equal or greater value at the discretion of King Of The Season. Prizes are non-transferable and non-redeemable for cash unless explicitly stated.
Competition Modification and Cancellation
King Of The Season reserves the right to modify, suspend, or cancel the Competition, in whole or in part, at any time where reasonably necessary. This includes, but is not limited to, unforeseen circumstances such as extreme weather events, safety concerns, operational issues, sponsor withdrawal, or matters outside reasonable control.
Limitation of Liability
To the fullest extent permitted by New Zealand law, King Of The Season, its organizers, sponsors, partners, and affiliates shall not be liable for any loss, damage, injury, illness, death, theft, or equipment damage arising from participation in the Competition or use of the website.
Intellectual Property
By entering the Competition, participants grant King Of The Season a non-exclusive, worldwide, royalty-free license to use submitted content including images, videos, catch data, names, and related materials for promotional, marketing, and commercial purposes. Participants confirm they own or have permission to use any content submitted.
Privacy
All personal information is collected, stored, and used in accordance with the Privacy Policy published on this website.
Website Use
Users must not attempt to disrupt, damage, or gain unauthorized access to the website or related systems. King Of The Season reserves the right to restrict access where misuse is suspected.
Governing Law
These Terms & Conditions are governed by the laws of New Zealand. Any disputes arising shall be subject to the exclusive jurisdiction of the courts of New Zealand.

Refund Policy

Competition Entry Fees
Participants may request a full refund of their competition entry fee within 7 days of purchasing their entry, provided that:

The refund request is received within 7 calendar days of payment;

The Competition has not yet commenced; and
-
The participant has not been disqualified for breaching the Competition Rules or Terms & Conditions.
After the 7 day refund period has expired, all competition entry fees become non-refundable.
Refund requests must be submitted in writing by emailing info@kingoftheseason.co.nz within the applicable 7 day period. Approved refunds will be processed to the original payment method used for the purchase.
Refunds will not be provided for:

Change of mind after the 7 day refund period;

Inability to participate;

Failure to submit catches;

Disqualification due to a breach of the Competition Rules or Terms & Conditions;

Failure to read or understand the Competition Rules prior to entering.
Competition Cancellation
If King Of The Season cancels the Competition before it commences and is unable to proceed, all eligible participants who have purchased an entry will receive a full refund of their entry fee.
If the Competition is cancelled, suspended, or materially affected by circumstances beyond the reasonable control of King Of The Season after commencement, King Of The Season reserves the right to determine an appropriate outcome. This may include continuing the Competition in a modified format, awarding prizes based on results available at the time, awarding prizes based on verified results at the time of cancellation, issuing credits, providing partial refunds, or providing full refunds where appropriate.
Participants will be notified of any cancellation, suspension, or significant change as soon as reasonably practicable.
Merchandise Returns and Defects
If merchandise purchased from King Of The Season arrives damaged, defective, incorrect, or does not match its description, please contact us at info@kingoftheseason.co.nz within 14 days of receiving your order.
Where a product is found to be defective or does not meet applicable consumer guarantees, King Of The Season may provide a repair, replacement, or refund in accordance with New Zealand consumer law.
Proof of purchase and photographic evidence of the issue may be required to assist with assessing your claim.
Unless required by applicable New Zealand law or where an item is faulty, customers are responsible for any costs associated with returning merchandise.
Consumer Rights
Nothing in this Refund Policy limits or excludes any rights or remedies available to consumers under applicable New Zealand law, including the Consumer Guarantees Act 1993.
